Canadian Visitor Visa from Brazil: TRV, Biometrics and Documents

Quick answer

A Canadian Temporary Resident Visa is a counterfoil placed in a passport that allows the holder to travel to a Canadian port of entry and request admission as a visitor. It does not guarantee entry or establish the length of stay. Foreign nationals applying from Brazil should separate passport-based requirements from Brazilian residence evidence and present a temporary purpose supported by consistent finances, ties, travel history and documents.

TRV, eTA and visitor status are different

The travel document depends mainly on passport nationality, mode of travel and eligibility. A TRV is placed in the passport; an eTA is electronically linked to a passport for eligible air travellers. Neither is the final admission decision.

At arrival, the Canada Border Services Agency may set a specific period. If no different date is recorded, visitors are commonly admitted for up to six months, but the passport stamp, visitor record and officer instructions control.

Review your route before filing.

Applying from Brazil does not change nationality

Legal residence in Brazil can establish where the applicant lives, current work or study and reasons to return. It does not convert one passport into another or automatically create eTA eligibility.

The application should disclose current immigration status in Brazil and keep its dates consistent with the planned Canadian visit. A residence permit that expires during the proposed trip may require explanation.

Keep forms and evidence consistent.

Evidence should answer the officer’s questions

The officer considers purpose, duration, occupation, family, assets, travel history, previous immigration outcomes and accessible funds. Formal employment is not mandatory in every case, but the temporary plan must be credible for the actual profile.

An invitation may establish the host and accommodation. If the host pays, document the relationship, scope of support and capacity. The host cannot replace the applicant’s own circumstances.

Biometrics and identity

Temporary residence applicants aged 14 to 79 generally provide fingerprints and a photograph unless exempt. After the biometrics instruction letter, the usual deadline is 30 days. Follow the letter and use an authorized collection point.

Temporary residence biometrics are generally valid for ten years. Their expiry may limit visa validity, and the time taken by the applicant to provide biometrics is excluded from published processing estimates.

Plan your application with technical support.

Online filing, fees and passport request

The standard visitor visa fee is normally CAD100 per person and biometrics CAD85 per person, subject to family caps and official updates. Confirm amounts at payment. Translations, medical examinations and professional services may be separate.

Approval may be followed by a passport request so the counterfoil can be inserted. Do not treat an interim letter as boarding authority and avoid irreversible travel purchases before the process is complete.

Credibility, refusals and a new application

Unexplained deposits, copied itineraries, inconsistent job dates and undisclosed refusals can undermine credibility. Save the exact form and every attachment so later questions can be answered from the submitted record.

A refusal does not automatically bar a new application, but filing the same evidence again rarely addresses the concern. A new case should respond to the reasons and disclose the previous outcome accurately.

A decision-ready check

Reconcile passport data, Brazilian status, travel dates, funding, host information, employment or study and immigration history. Every upload should prove a fact rather than add volume.

Frequently asked questions

Does Brazilian residence make me eligible for a TRV?

It explains current residence but passport nationality and individual requirements remain separate.

Does a TRV guarantee entry?

No. CBSA decides admission at the port of entry.

How long can I stay?

Often up to six months if no other date is set, but the officer’s record controls.

How long are biometrics valid?

Generally ten years for temporary residence, subject to the individual record and rules.

Is an invitation mandatory?

Not always. It supports a host arrangement but does not replace applicant evidence.

Should I buy tickets first?

Avoid non-refundable commitments before the visa process is complete.
