Quick answer
A visa can become invalid before its printed expiration if it is cancelled or revoked. The holder may receive an embassy or consulate notice, see a physical cancellation, or be informed by a U.S. authority. CEAC is not a universal live-validity certificate for every issued visa. A foreign national in Brazil who receives a credible notice should verify it through the issuing post and should not test the visa at the airport.
Expiration is not the same as revocation
Expiration is the ordinary end of the period printed on the visa. The State Department glossary defines revocation as cancellation that makes the visa no longer valid for U.S. travel. A revoked document should not be used even when its sticker date is in the future.
A cancellation notation can also arise in different administrative settings. The exact marking and reason matter. Cancellation does not by itself tell the holder whether a future application is possible or whether a separate inadmissibility exists.

Official notification and document markings
Foreign Affairs Manual guidance provides for notice when practicable. A consular post may contact the holder and provide instructions. A visa presented to a post can also be physically marked REVOKED or CANCELLED.
Keep the full message, envelope, headers and passport pages. Verify the sender through the embassy or consulate's public channel. A request to pay an agent to reactivate the visa is a fraud warning, not a lawful remedy.

Why CEAC does not answer every validity question
CEAC may display the historic processing status of a visa case, but an old Issued status does not certify that the visa has never been revoked later. A lack of public change does not cancel an official notice received by the holder.
Airlines conduct document checks, but their boarding system is not a personal legal opinion. Waiting to discover the problem at check-in can result in denied boarding and loss of non-refundable travel.
Events that require careful review
An overstay can void or cancel visa validity under the rules described by the State Department. New eligibility, security, criminal, fraud or category-use information can also trigger review. Not every arrest, trip change or news announcement automatically revokes every visa.
The analysis should connect the individual event, the official communication and the travel record. Prior refusals, I-94 dates and other citizenships must remain accurate in any new application.
What a resident of Brazil should do
If the notice is authentic, follow it and do not travel on the document. If authenticity or scope is unclear, contact the post that issued the visa using an official channel. Do not send unredacted identity documents to a random address.
A new DS-160 and fee may be required, but reapplication does not erase the history. MVA Vistos can organize a factual review from Brazil; it cannot reinstate a visa or speak for the U.S. government.
Revocation and refusal of admission are separate
Consular revocation concerns the travel document. CBP refusal concerns admission at a port of entry. The events may be connected, but one should not be described as the other.
A traveller can also be refused admission with a visa that had not been revoked. Visa validity never guarantees entry, so the safest response to a credible cancellation notice is confirmation before travel.
If a visa is physically cancelled without prejudice, that marking often reflects an administrative action rather than a finding that permanently bars a new application. The holder still needs the specific context before drawing a conclusion.
A foreign resident in Brazil should also separate U.S. visa validity from the status of the passport and Brazilian residence document. Replacing a passport or residence card does not automatically recreate a revoked U.S. visa.
Before contacting the post, prepare the visa number, passport details, issue location, travel dates and a copy of the notice. A focused inquiry protects privacy and gives the section enough information to locate the record.

No private adviser can reactivate a U.S. visa.
Can overstay cancel a visa?
Yes, the State Department explains that exceeding the authorized stay can void or cancel it in applicable circumstances.
