CoE establishes the intended study

A CRICOS-registered provider issues the Confirmation of Enrolment after the acceptance and required payments. Unless an official exception applies, a valid CoE for every intended course is required. An offer letter is not the same record.

Packaged courses should show continuous dates and logical progression. The main CoE can influence evidence settings and processing priority, so a last-minute provider change affects more than the school name.

Genuine Student answers are assessed with evidence

Applications lodged from 23 March 2024 use the Genuine Student requirement. The online form asks about current circumstances, provider and course choice, understanding of study in Australia, expected benefit and other relevant information. Answers are in English and limited to 150 words each.

Career history, prior education, gaps, comparable options and the value of the course are examined together. A change of field can be genuine, but it needs a factual bridge rather than generic claims about Australia.

Keep forms and evidence consistent.

OSHC must cover the intended visa period

Overseas Student Health Cover is required for the student and accompanying family. Official guidance requires coverage from at least one week before course commencement and for the stay. Policy details must match the application.

OSHC expiry can limit the visa end date. If the applicant wants the usual post-course period, coverage should extend through that period. Buying only to the final class date can produce a shorter grant.

Financial capacity is more than a bank balance

Evidence may need to cover travel, 12 months of living costs, tuition and school costs for accompanying children. The published 12-month living-cost figure for the student is AUD29,710, but it is only one component. The official checklist determines what must be attached.

Source, ownership and access matter. Recent deposits, family support, loans, scholarships and investments should have a documentary trail. A credit limit or illiquid asset does not automatically equal available study funds.

English, health, character and dependants

English evidence depends on the accepted test and exemptions. A provider’s admission decision does not automatically satisfy the visa rule. Health examinations and police certificates may also be requested.

Applicants under 18 need parental consent and approved welfare arrangements. Dates in the CoE, CAAW or guardian arrangement, OSHC and planned arrival must align.

Filing from Brazil and maintaining status

Brazilian residence can explain the place of application and current ties, while passport nationality controls nationality-specific evidence. Forms, translations and financial records should identify both accurately.

After grant, read every condition in the grant letter and VEVO. Work limitations, enrolment, satisfactory progress and health cover continue after arrival. A visa grant does not remove the education provider’s separate rules.
