Quick answer
Bring the passport used in the application, the matching DS-160 confirmation page, the appointment confirmation and any item specifically requested. CASV biometrics and a consular interview are different appointments. Security rules also differ by facility, so restrictions published for the U.S. Embassy or Consulates should not automatically be described as CASV rules.
What the CASV does
The Applicant Service Center supports the local nonimmigrant visa process by collecting biometrics and handling assigned documents. It does not decide whether a visa is issued. Adjudication belongs to the U.S. consular officer.
Some applicants have both CASV and consular appointments, sometimes on different dates and at different addresses. Others follow a different route based on age, biometrics or current renewal instructions.

Documents that must match
The passport number, applicant name, DS-160 barcode and local scheduling record should refer to the same case. Check them before the appointment. A new passport or replacement DS-160 may require an update through the scheduling system.
A printed photograph may be required when the DS-160 upload failed or when the individual instruction requests one. Do not replace the appointment notice with a generic online checklist.

Restricted items: CASV versus consular facility
The U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Brazil publish strict security limits, including bans on mobile phones and other electronics, liquids and drinks with a limited child-feeding exception, and most bags other than a small purse or equivalent.
Those are consular-facility rules. The CASV is a separate site with its own operations. Bring only essential items, do not assume storage will be available, and check the confirmation and official service channel for the location and date.
Common causes of a failed visit
Applicants may lose the appointment by attending the wrong address, confusing the CASV time with the interview time, arriving with a mismatched DS-160 or relying on a phone for the only copy of a confirmation that must be shown inside a restricted facility.
Print required pages, plan transport and review any authorized companion or accessibility arrangement in advance. A rule followed at one site may not apply at the other.
Foreign residents in Brazil
A foreign national applying in Brazil should also retain genuine evidence of Brazilian residence because current State Department policy prioritizes applications in the country of nationality or residence. The exact evidence should follow the post's instructions.
MVA Vistos can review the record and appointment instructions as an independent private adviser. It cannot authorize entry to a facility, waive security screening or represent the U.S. government.
Plan for two locations, not one generic appointment
The address on a CASV confirmation may differ from the embassy or consulate address. Applicants should map each visit separately, including travel time and the ban on bringing items that cannot enter the consular facility.
If a medical device, medication, interpreter or accessibility arrangement is necessary, contact the official channel before the visit. Approval at another post or an earlier appointment should not be assumed to carry over.
Applicants should carry printed confirmations rather than depend on a phone that may be barred from the consular building. They should also verify whether a child or elderly applicant must appear, because an exemption from one step does not necessarily remove every appointment.
A receipt from the CASV is not a visa decision. Passport tracking and delivery follow the local account, while a 221(g) instruction comes from the consular section and should be followed through the channel stated in the notice.
If the DS-160 barcode on the appointment record is not the one the applicant intends to use, the mismatch should be addressed before arrival under the current scheduling instructions. Staff may be unable to repair a material record conflict at the counter, and a later appointment may not be immediately available.
Frequently asked questions
Does the CASV interview me?
The CASV generally handles operational steps such as biometrics. The consular officer conducts adjudication and any required visa interview.
Can I bring my phone?
Do not assume so. Electronics are banned at consular facilities in Brazil; verify the separate CASV rule for your appointment.
Do I need a printed photo?
Bring one if the upload failed or the case instructions require it.
Can I take a backpack?
Avoid unnecessary bags. Consular facilities restrict them, and the CASV rule should be checked separately.
Can someone accompany me?
Only limited situations may allow a companion. Ask the official channel in advance for a minor, disability, age or language need.
What if I changed passports?
Update the relevant DS-160 or scheduling information as instructed before attending.
